The club has reached a stage now where we would like to
introduce more coaching and tournaments.
Our reason for not doing so is because we have so few adults
who can commit to attending/coaching on a regular basis.
The committee have discussed this and have agreed, in
principle, that if we can form a group of adult volunteers who can fill this criteria we
could then announce our intentions in the paper and hopefully invite more
members.
We have the only registered club in the North of Scotland,
we have an excellent venue, more than enough equipment, we also host the
largest annual junior tournament in the area, there is no reason we cannot be a more
successful club, enter the Scottish National Chess League, and
host weekly tournaments within the club, we
only need more adults!
It is amazing how many players there are in the area and are registered
with the
Scottish Chess Association, and on
Chess.com!, it would be
brilliant to see more of them at the club.
I must take this opportunity to thank the adults who already
turn up as often as they can, in some cases every week, to open up the club and
generally ensure we are always open, they also coach new members and run the
very successful
monthly Blitz
tournament.
If anyone wants to contact me you can reach me through the club
website .
I hope we will be in a position to announce new
tournaments/coaching etc.; we just need to pass on the word we are looking for
support to carry out the clubs ambitions and promote chess in the Highlands.
